I think i was something like ten or eleven years old, when the Spanish TV started to play these series, and because i lived really closed to the border we watched as much Spanish as Portuguese television.
The story of little Goku, a kid with a monkey tail and really hardcore in the martial arts, searching for the seven dragon balls, spread really fast around the kids and was more popular then soccer, and soccer in Portugal and Spain is a pretty huge thing! But the funny thing was that the parents started to follow the series too, some would use the excuse that it was because of the kids, but the truth is they enjoyed it, i think, even more than we did. Everyday at 6 Pm. my little town would stop for 30 minutes, all the TV's in every house, bars and so on, were tuned in the same channel, it was Dragon Ball time. Later it came to Portuguese TV too, and the fever spread as fast trough the whole country as it had in the little town, and suddenly, the whole land would stop for 30 minutes everyday. I have never seen anything like it. Better animated series came later on but none of them ever had the same impact, as Goku and friends did. That is why, in some kind of nostalgic mood, i let you with two of my favorite characters, Freezer and Picolo!
To all the Dragon Ball fans, a huge hug!!
Peace!
This takes me back. Best cartoon series ever.
ReplyDeleteI remember vividly, in albufeira not such a small village, everyone stopped, in all the bars in the old town, it was like you said chico, dragonball time.
